Course Description
This is a two-semester course study of Geometry. The course will cover introductory geometric topics such as points, lines, planes, shapes and their applications, reasoning & proof, introductory trigonometry, area, surface area, and volume, as well as transformations and the coordinate plane. This class meets all of the Wyoming Mathematics Standards and Benchmarks for 9th - 12th grade Geometry.
What To Expect
Students can expect consistency from week to week. Each week will see the same basic structure. Monday and Tuesday are days where students will learn new concepts. Wednesday is set aside for technology applications. Thursday is a day for review of the week’s topics, and homework will be submitted this day. Quizzes and Exams will be given on Friday.
Most of the course work will be completed by the termination of third quarter in preparation for those students taking the PAWS test. Fourth quarter will be filled with applications of the courses topics (activities, projects, district assessments, etc...).
What I Expect
Students will bring their own notebooks, calculators, and writing utensils to every class. The students will not receive textbooks (unless a parent requests one). Information on the course can all be accessed at the websites mentioned above.
Students are expected to be in their seats and ready to learn no later than 1 minute after the bell rings. This gives the teacher a chance to get back to his room after monitoring the halls and prepare to take roll.
Students are expected to participate in classroom discussions. There are no “stupid questions.” Students are also expected to listen and be quiet whenever the teacher is talking.
Grading Procedure
Grading will be done in the following manner: The students will be given a percentage grade based on points earned divided by points total, and the students will also receive a performance and proficiency grade on assignments which meet Wyoming State Math Standards.
- Homework: 10 pts. Each Assignment
- Weekly Quizzes: 20 pts. Each Assessment
- Unit Exams: 100 pts. Each Assessment
Discipline
The classroom rules are as follows:
- Be in class on time and prepared when the bell rings.
- Respect and Courtesy are demanded at all times, and for all.
- Electronic devices are unnecessary, unless otherwise notified.
Minor consequences will be dealt with in the classroom between the teacher and the student involved. The building administrators will deal with other offenses outlined by them and as discussed in the student handbook.
