Back to Magic
Along with the Salem Witches Institute (Massachusetts), the Columbia (British Columbia, Canada), the Ponchatran (Louisiana), and the Brownsville (South Texas) schools of witchcraft and wizardry is the Beartooth School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It is the more popular of the three wizarding schools in North America, and is one of two located in the United States.

Information
Extern Alley & Diurn Alley are the two streets leading off main street in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The train station that leaves Jackson and goes to Beartooth School is on Diurn Alley. The shoppes and the local Wizarding bank are found on Extern Alley. Access to both streets can be accessed by most wizards who are familiar with the olde cafe just north of Gill Avenue on North Cache Drive. The shoppe is well hidden from muggles, but is visible to wizards and witches, unless they're put under some kind of curse. In either case, once entered, the cafe's back door walks straight out at the corner of Extern and Diurn Alleys.
The train runs twice a year, once on September 1 and once on May 31, hence the name of the street (diurnally means "twice a year"). It carries the students from Diurn Alley north-east through the Gros Ventre mountains, then due north toward Yellowstone Park. After it takes a trip through a well designed tunnel near the east entrance to Yellowstone Park (so as to avoid muggle eyes), it winds its way up through the beartooth mountains to the school.
The school is designed like an old fort, with most of it's outer walls made of log. There are several other buildings, mostly log-cabin type, surrounding the great hall and the main fort. The entire school is surrounded by a rock wall with towers at each bend, and a gate facing east. The school houses about 200 students each year. It was built by immigrant wizarding families from England, Scotland, Wales, and Sweden in 1875.
Houses
There are no separate houses at Beartooth like there are at Hogwarts. The five schools in North America compete against each other in quidditch and in magical competitions. When one of the schools is invited to participate in the Wizarding Tournament, such as the Triwizard Tournament, these schools will compete against each other in a "quarter final" style tournament of their own to determine which of the schools will travel internationally. The only mascot of the Beartooth School is the Grizzly Bear, which there are statues of along the outer walls.
Governance
Headmaster
The Headmaster is the senior-most professor at the school, and is typically given to run the affairs of the school, and only teachers classes to seventh-year students who are in advanced magical classes.
Council of Thirteen
The Council of Thirteen is a group of senior Wizards or Witches who are residents of North America who serve the people by representing them in various positions in the US government or the Canadian parliament.
Secretary of Sorcery
The Secretary of Sorcery is the American wizarding official that reports to the US President on matters regarding the wizarding world in North America. This person is elected by the wizarding community to represent them in the affairs of the country. The Secretary of Sorcery reports to both the US President and the Canadian Prime Minister. Very rarely does this Secretary have to appear to either of the leaders of these countries, but there are occasions. The Secretary of Sorcery also meets regularly with the wizarding leaders of other countries, such as the Minister of Magic in England. This position is normally filled with a senior-most Warlock who is a resident of the continent, often chosen from the Council of Thirteen. Periods of service are 10 consecutive years, and a Secretary can be elected by the people for no more than three consecutive terms.
Ministry of Magic
Each country or region is headed by a Ministry of Magic, including the US and Canada. The Ministry has several offices and departments, each of which is responsible for the oversight of different aspects of the magical world.
