| Many times, we receive owls (mail that is delivered by owl) that can be answered with the simplest of answers. Often, we receive owls asking the same questions over and over. So we, at the Mills Family Wand Company, thought it might be best to create a page with Frequently Asked Questions. So, here they are! Hopefully they might answer some of your questions about us, our wands, and what we do here! |
 |
Do your wands actually work? Are they magical?
We receive several owls each week from aspiring witches and wizards, and sometimes muggles as well, asking if our wands actually work. If a witch or wizard who has magic inside them uses one of our handcrafted wands, then the wand will help to perform wonderful and powerful magic! A wand is, quite simply, a tool that a wizard uses to channel and focus his or her natural magical energy. This is why a wizard who finds a perfectly-matching wand will have more success than one who uses a wand that is not compatible. The type of energy flowing from the wizard can be aided or heeded by the wand wood and/or the magical core inside.
However, if there is no magic in the individual who wields or uses a wand, whether it is one of ours or made by a different wand maker, then the wand will not do anything! A wand cannot perform any spells or magic on its own. The wand, in this case, will be a nice piece of wood to display or an item that will spark imagination in young children. |
 |
Are your wands made of real wood? Do they contain real cores?
Yes! Our wands are certified to be made of the actual wood that they say they are made of. If one of our wands says it is made of walnut, then it is made of walnut! If it says it is made of apple wood, then it is made of apple wood!
Also, our wands contain real cores! Some may not consider the beasts to be magical, but our wand maker spends some time collecting real cores from magical beasts and creatures, and he also has some other witches and wizards who supply him with some of his magical cores. For more information on the beasts we gather our cores from, see the link on the left titled "Creatures & Cores." |
 |
What is included with the wand I order? Why are your wands more expensive than some other's wands?
Each of our wands are created by the same two hands. Our Master Wand Maker uses a variety of strategies and magic to create each one of the wands sold by the Mills Family Wand Company. Also, each of our wands includes a real core from a magical creature or beast. Most other wands found today do not (only those made by real wand makers, such as Ollivander and Mills). Your wand also comes with a hand-made box that fits the wand you have purchased. Your wand also includes a certificate of authenticity certifying the wood, core, and length of your wand along with a list of some of the magical properties of the said combination. On the back of the certificate of authenticity is a list of useful spells that one can use in day-to-day life. |
 |
Are you the only wandmaker? Are there other places I can get a wand?
Oh, there are several wandmakers! We happen to be one of many that work inside North America. Some of the other most notable wandmakers are Finneas Alivan (Alivan's), Fitchel & Son's, Gilded Quill, Whirlwood wands, and ours! We are all part of the Fellowship of Wandmakers (found here: Fellowship of Wandmakers).
What sets us apart from other wandmakers is the real cores in the centers of each of our wands as well as the uniqueness of each wand. No two are alike, and no two will ever be alike! |
 |
Do you have an actual shoppe? Are you located anywhere?
Yes! We have a few shoppes that witches and wizards can visit. Our main shoppe is located in Rawlins, Wyoming, but we also have a shoppe in Jackson, Wyoming and one in the small wizarding town of Bear Creek, adjacent to the Beartooth School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Each of the last two can only be seen and visited by those who are witches and wizards, as they are hidden from muggle-eyes.
We also set up shoppe sometimes at fairs and other gatherings for witches and wizards. Send us an owl if you'd like to know where we are going to be next! |
 |
Where do you ship your wands to? Can I purchase one of your wands in my country?
Normally we ship to anywhere in the United States and Canada for a flat fee of $7, USD. However, there have been individuals who have purchased our wands who live outside North America. In thses cases, we simply ask that you pay the extra shipping charges that apply. There may also be extra fees for Customs, or for marking a box as "fragile." |
 |
I accidentally broke my wand. Can it be repaired or replaced?
In some cases a wand can be repaired using some complex magic, but in most cases, wands that are broken are typically beyond repair. If you contact us with the details, we can let you know if the wand is repairable. As long as you are willing to pay the charges to ship the wand back to us, we can help each customer.
In cases that the wand is broken beyond repair, a replacement wand can always be purchased from us. If you would like a wand like the one that was broken, include a photo in your mail (owl or email) and we can do our best to duplicate the wand. Keep in mind that all our wands are handmade by our Master Wand Maker, and no two wands will ever be alike. |
 |
Do you create movie/film replicas? Can I purchase a wand just like Harry Potter's?
No... Keep in mind that the first wands used by the actors in the Harry Potter films were made of wood and were perhaps made of the wood specified by the books written by J.K. Rowling. However, after the first few films, the wands were found to be broken too easily, and were replaced by resin wands (a type of plastic) that could be cast and duplicated many times over. The wands used by all witches and wizards appearing in the films are therefore not made of wood and doubtfully contain magical cores. If you seek wands that are made like those of the films, you can visit the Warner Bro's. site. There are also other wand makers who make wands of wood, but they are made in a duplicating machine. It is also doubtful that these wands actually contain magical cores. |

I have already filled out the forms and sent a request for a wand, but have not heard back from you yet. What do I do?
Please be patient with us. We have never found a flaw in out owl or email systems, so be sure that if you filled out the form completely and clicked the Submit button, we received your mail or message. We typically respond to all mail within 48 hours (2 days), but there are times when we are traveling and are away from our office. Our Master Wand Maker sometimes receives notices to attend wizarding meetings, as he is a member of the Order of Merlin, Third Class, and has been asked to serve on the North American Wizarding Council (Wizengamot) or in various positions with the North American Ministry of Magic. In these cases, you will eventually receive replies to your mail messages. Again, please be patient!
If you are in doubt that we received your message, or that you may not have filled out the form completely or properly, you may fill out the form once more. Once we receive your mail message, we will reply to you. If we happen to get more than one message from you, it's no big deal... We will use the information you have provided to send you a reply. |
 |
I filled out the form and received a reply, but did not like the choice of wands that chose me. What do I do?
Our Master Wand Maker does not use a formula or a computer program to determine the wand that best chooses a witch or wizard. So, once a wand type (wood, core, and length) has been selected for a person, it won't matter how often you fill out the form, the results will be the same. There are circumstances when more than one wand wood, core, or length will yield the same results as another. But this doesn't happen very often.
If you are sitll dissatisfied and want to purchase a want that you feel you will be happier with, then you can always let us know! We also can do custom work for our customers. Select the "Choose Your Wand" form and let us know thhe wand wood, core, and length you would like to have, and give us any specific details you want added to your wand and we can create to wand for you. A powerful witch or wizard can channel their magical energy through just about any object, but the best magic will always be performed by a wizard and a wand that are matched with each other. |
 |
| If you have other questions that we have not answered above, you can visit our "Send Us An Owl" page and mail us a question. We usually respond to all mail within 48 hours. There are times, especially in the late spring or early summer, when we are traveling to wizarding conventions or meetings and do not receive our mail right away. Please be patient and understand that we will reply to all mail received. |
