Each of the magical wands made here at the Mills Family Wand Company is as authentic and realistic as it gets. Our wands even come with real magical cores inside them! These magical cores come from magical creatures, harvested by our wandmaker or by other witches and wizards who supply us with magical cores from beasts they work with.
Below, we've given a brief description of the creatures that we get our wand cores from, and we have included some images taken of the magical and intriguing beasts. We hope you like what you read here, and if you have any questions, feel free to send us an owl with your questions. |
 |
The Magnificent Unicorn
The unicorn is among the most recognizable of magical beasts. We have a few different species of unicorns here in North America. In the mountain west, we have several small herds of wild unicorns that roam the prairies and low-lying mountains of Wyoming, the Dakotas, and Montana. Muggles call these creatures Wild Horses and mustangs. Our very own wandmaker follows the herds and collects some of the unicorn hairs that are shed or left behind on trees and shrubs.
Unicorn hair is an excellent wand core. A wand with a unicorn hair core best serves a witch or wizard that is pure in heart and has positive intentions. Unicorn hair is very powerful and extremely magical. |

The Powerful Phoenix
The Phoenix is a powerfully magical creature. A variety of phoenix, found in North America, is often misunderstood for another common mountain and prairie bird, the pheasant. The feathers of these magical creatures are harvested by our wandmaker among the grasses along creeks and streams in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.
Phoenix tears have healing powers. For this reason, phoenix feathers offer a wand owner healing powers as well as strength to vanquish dark magic. These powerful and very magical wand cores work best when combined with cherry, cedar, oak, and mahogany wand woods. |

The Dangerous Dragon
Dragons are dangerous creatures, capable of flight and breathing fire. They are found all over the world in a variety of breeds. Dragons have many uses, some of which are to protect from spells and hexes. There are a few breeds of dragons on the North American continent, one of which is the Rocky Mountain Snow dragon. Another popular breed is the Desert Green (a newborn shown at right).
The heartstring of a dragon, when used as a wand core, gives a wand a powerful punch. Dragons are tough and strong, with scales that protect against most magical spells. For this reason, dragon heartstring cores give a wand power, that is not suited to just any witch or wizard. These wand cores bond most easily to wizards that are strong physically as well as emotionally. They enhance the user's magic, producing excellent protective charms and defensive magic. |
 |
The Ellusive Thestral
Thestrals are extremely magical creatures. They appear as thin and bony horses with bat-style wings, but there are a few breeds whose appearances differ slightly. Thestrals appear all over the world, but are found mainly in places that are difficult to get to. Some herds can be found in the remote mountains of Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. Thestrals can only be seen by those who have witnessed or faced death.
Thestral Hairs can be used as wand cores, though they are rare. The hairs can only be collected by those who can see them, which lends to their rarety. Wands with thestral hair cores usually help the wand wielder become more brave and courageous. They cast powerful protective and defensive charms, and are great for disillusionment charms. |

The Awesome Ashwinder
Aswinders are sometimes born from the flames and ashes of magical fires, most often from those that are left untended. Ashwinder's live for less than an hour, and typically slither off to find secluded areas to lay their eggs. Once deceased, ashwinders leave their ashy remains behind, a witness to having died protecting their offspring.
Ashwinder ash continues to maintain the magical properties of the ashwinder after death. Wands with this core cast excellent protective spells, and often bond most easily to those who tend to be reclusive. |
 |
The Venomous Basilisk
Basilisks are dangerous creatures and should not be trifled with. Basilisks are born from magical experiments with different creatures, most often involving chicken eggs hatched under a toad. Basilisks have deadly vision and strong venom. Basilisks are rarely seen, but evidence of their existence is found from time to time, such as it's skin. Basilisks grow to be larger than other snake-like creatures, and thus their skin sheds are distinct and recognizable.
Basilisk skin can be used as a wand core. Wands containing basilisk skin most often bond to dark wizards, though not always. Such wands cast strong protective charms and defensive spells. Also, wielders of wands with basilisk skin cores have shown a tendency to speak parseltongue. |
